Club Awards – AGM 2018

Congratulations to the two very deserving recipients of our 2018 club awards, Marnie Costantini and Daryl Canny, presented at our AGM on August 27th 2018.

Marnie Costantini is the recipient of the 2018 President’s Award, in recognition of outstanding contribution to the club in the Sponsorship and Marketing role. Over the last 2 years Marnie has signed up two major club sponsors and 8 Team Gold sponsors, sponsoring a total of 11 Greenvale teams. Her dedication has secured funds for the club and our kids, and also raised the club’s profile with a strong social media presence and management of merchandise tops for our coaches, team managers and players.

Daryl Canny is the recipient of the 2018 Dina Tomaselli Memorial Award, a vote for Best Club Person in recognition of ongoing efforts, contribution and support of the club. Daryl lobbied the Hume City Council tirelessly across many months for the addition of a second court at the Greenvale Recreation Centre. There is no doubt that if it weren’t for his efforts, GV members would not be enjoying the space and new court facility, and much needed upgrade to the original court, that we have today.

Thank you Daryl and Marnie!

Annual General Meeting and election of our new club committee

Two weeks ago on Monday 24 August 2015, we held our Annual General Meeting.

The President acknowledged the long and dedicated service to club from two outgoing committee members – Lance Corby and Robert Malcolm, both of whom have contributed to the club in varied ways over many many years – thanks guys!

Our new committee was elected, then we heard updates on:

  • the upcoming new court construction at the Greenvale Rec Centre,
  • a ‘pilot’ coaches development program being developed in-house, and
  • new club branded hoodies (grey are for the club officials so you can see us when you need us on game day – black are for club members and supporters), which you can purchase through your team manager.

Please read the minutes and attachments or contact any of the new committee members for further information.

Greenvale Basketball Club Annual General Meeting – 24 August 2015

It’s that time of year again, time for the Greenvale Basketball Club’s annual general meeting. As a club we have had another successful year, both on and off the court. We have introduced a number of new players, teams and parents to the game of basketball and we now have almost 50 teams that participate each week representing our club. That equates to approximately 400 children playing domestic basketball for Greenvale. Of course this  doesn’t happen without the support of volunteers and in particular those that give up some of their time to be a part of our committee.

Over the past 5 years we have had the same group of people step forward and run our committee ensuring that all of our kids get onto the court each week. And although that same core group have done a fantastic job, it’s time to prepare for the future.

We are seeking individuals that care enough for the future of our fantastic club at Greenvale, to step forward, put your hand up and join the committee. It’s an exciting time to join… We have a brand new court just about to commence construction and have an opportunity to tap into one of the largest growth corridors in northern metropolitan Melbourne, all to get more kids on the court participating in the best game in the world.
On the evening of the AGM, we will also be holding a special general meeting to discuss and seek endorsement to transition our operating model to model rules that apply to all incorporated associations. This is expected to take no more than 15 minutes and will be scheduled to run before the AGM.
I look forward to seeing you all there on the night!
Monday 24 August 2015 – 7pm start
Greenvale Recreation Centre, Barrymore Road, Greenvale
Shane Gillard (President) on behalf of the 2014-15 Committee.

Reminder AGM Tuesday 12 August

A reminder that our club’s Annual General Meeting is on next Tuesday 12 August at the Greenvale Recreation Centre, kicking off at 7pm.

It would be fantastic if each team could have a representative (or more) attend. Also, if you have the time, transferable skills and want to show your commitment to our club, please consider taking a role on the committee or encouraging and nominating someone you feel that can make a contribution.

Check out our previous post for all the details.

On behalf of the outgoing committee, I look forward to seeing you there.

Week one of finals and our AGM

Firstly, I would just like to take this opportunity for Coaches and Team Managers to remind all families that the Greenvale Basketball Club AGM in on next Wednesday evening, 7pm on the 14th August at the Greenvale Rec Centre. Our club is in a very healthy state, and we’ve already had nominations to fill all constitutional positions. I would like to see at least 1 representation from each of our 46 teams there to support and recognise those members that do volunteer their time to keep our great club running. This meeting is a very important event on our calendar, and it’s the ideal time to show your support, hear a summary of our past year and see the new Committee elected.

Attached are details surrounding this week’s finals – both the game schedule and player qualifications. This is only applicable to U10 ~ U19. U08’s will just play an extra 2 weeks of fixtured games.

Regarding player eligibility for finals, we had several players miss qualification and as a consequence, CAN NOT play in the Finals series. Whilst this is somewhat of a painful experience for the child affected, these rules are in place for a reason. To qualify, the rules are quite simple:

  • Player must have completed a Girls (pink) or Boys (blue) BBA Registration Card once in either the current or a past seasons
  • Player must have registered by signing the original Team Sheet which is submitted at the start of a season, else register with the Team by completing registration details and signing the back of a Game Day Score Sheets
  • Player must have participated in at least 9 games in the current season (concession are given for BYEs and Walkovers received)
  • Player must have signed the back of at least 9 game Score Sheets in the current season

Failure to comply with all 4 of these regulations will exclude a player from participating in finals.

Team Managers can check their player eligibility against the marked up team sheets (click here). For the four teams that have BYEs this week, your player eligibility is not included, but if you have any concerns we can follow this up for next week.

Given the rules regarding player eligibility is understood, I must reiterate for those that didn’t already know, finals score sheets are manually marked up with the names of ONLY qualified players. These names should not be altered in any way or added to. Last season, after the first round of Finals the results of three GBC teams were affected due to one of the participating teams adding players to the team sheet. The offending teams were ALL disqualified. Of those, two results were in our favour, and one was against. So I remind you all – DO NOT ADD PLAYERS TO FINALS SCORE SHEETS.  If you realise an omission that you were not aware of, contact me or your respective registrar immediately but under no circumstance is the player involved to take the court without our or BBA’s prior consent.

I’ll take this opportunity to thank all those that made last week’s Registration collection pretty straight forward. Most teams were well organised and we are well progressed towards team submission and finalising for next season. For the stragglers – please get your information and monies in urgently!!!

Aside from all that, good luck to those teams competing in finals this week. Of the 81 games scheduled this weekend, Greenvale is participating in 37.

Regards,  Paul Byron
